volcano in time lapse
explanatory video
The life cycle of a volcano - from formation to eruption to extinction - is a complex process. It is presented here in a very simplified and easily understandable way. In order to convey an impression of the enormous forces at work, I have created expressive and dramatic storytelling, design and sound. Have fun with it!
work process
Everyone knows what a volcanic eruption looks like, but what exactly happens during it is hidden from us in the underground activity and explosive-chaotic events on the earth's surface. I have visualized this with an orderly staging of the events, less with realistic effects, but more in the style of infographics.
To depict the magma, I used After Effects to create paths with glowing, liquefying and moving effects - it is my interpretation of scientific descriptions. The events above ground are related to the growth of the volcanic mountain. I made the construction sketch below for it, which I used to stage everything in a controlled manner.
